Bella Roma is a gorgeous one year old purebred female, who is red with a dark muzzle. She is young and high-strung and full of life! She is spayed, up to date with her shots and is heartworm negative. Bella is housebroken and crate trained (or she’ll be up on the bed!). She’s young, so she’s very playful and fun, and spends lots of her time playing with her foster brothers and sisters (bassets and bloodhounds). She’s definitely an alpha girl, but she gets along fine with other alphas, as long as the other isn’t threatening; she is no wilting lily, so she’ll mix it up. She treasures her food and is food protective, so she’s fed alone. She howls like a true hound and definitely keeps an eye on the yard, trying to chase off intruders with her barks. She’s not overly-barky, but she protects her home. Bella wants to please, so she’d benefit from obedience training. She pulls on a leash, and likes to bark at other dogs when she’s walking on a leash, but these behaviors can be changed. She tests her limits with humans, sometimes preferring not to go in her crate, but she ultimately submits. Bad behavior is dealt with using a spray bottle, and she definitely demurs to the power of the spray. She mostly ignores the cat, but she does have a strong prey instinct, so anything that runs, she’ll chase. She hasn’t been tested with children, but is good with all adults. She begs with all her might when people are eating, and it’s hard to turn down that beautiful face, but her food protectiveness issues must be respected. Bella has lots of energy and needs a good sized yard to play in. She LOVES to be with her people and turns into a lap dog when her people are on the sofa watching TV. Bella has two vertebrae that are slightly fused, and while this is not a problem now, future pain management may be necessary (or not). Keeping her on the thin side will aid in keeping her happy and healthy; she’s close to her ideal weight, but was brought into rescue a bit on the plump side. Bella is fostered near Tampa, FL.
